Who holds the record for the most YouTube subscribers? We break down the biggest channels on the platform, how they grew, and what smaller creators can learn from their strategies.
As of mid-2026, MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson) is the most-subscribed individual creator on YouTube, with over 500 million subscribers. He overtook T-Series in June 2024 and has continued to grow at an extraordinary pace, gaining roughly 130,000+ subscribers per day on average.
What makes MrBeast's growth remarkable isn't just the number — it's the speed. In 2024, he had around 240 million subscribers. By 2025, that number reached approximately 364 million. And by mid-2026, he crossed the 500 million mark. That kind of growth is virtually unprecedented for an individual creator.
YouTube doesn't publish an official real-time ranking of most-subscribed channels. Third-party tracking sites and Wikipedia maintain lists based on publicly visible subscriber counts, but these can fluctuate between updates.
A few important things to understand about rankings:
Based on the most recent publicly available data, here are the channels at the top of YouTube's subscriber rankings:

MrBeast built his audience by creating increasingly ambitious challenge and philanthropy videos. His content model — high production value, clear stakes, and emotional payoffs — is engineered for shareability. He also reinvests revenue into production, creating a cycle where better content drives more revenue which funds even better content.
Key lesson: Consistently raising the bar on production quality and stakes creates a compounding growth effect.
T-Series benefited from being one of India's largest music labels during a period when hundreds of millions of Indians came online for the first time. Their massive catalog of Bollywood and Indian music videos attracted a huge, engaged audience. They also upload extremely frequently — sometimes multiple videos per day.
Key lesson: Volume and catalog depth matter when serving a large, underserved audience.
Children's content has a unique advantage: kids watch the same videos repeatedly. Cocomelon's nursery rhyme animations are designed to be rewatched, generating enormous view counts from a relatively small audience of children and parents. The content is also language-light, making it accessible globally.
Key lesson: Content that encourages repeated viewing generates compounding returns.
Kids' content featuring young creators has dominated YouTube's top ranks for years. These channels combine child-friendly entertainment with professional production values, and their young stars create an emotional connection with their audience.
Key lesson: Authenticity and emotional connection can be more powerful than production budgets.
PewDiePie was the most-subscribed individual creator for years before MrBeast overtook him. His growth was driven by gaming content, personality-driven commentary, and an early mover advantage on the platform. While his growth has slowed significantly, his 110+ million subscriber base demonstrates the longevity of a strong personal brand.
Key lesson: Being early to a platform and building a distinct personality creates lasting audience loyalty.
K-pop fandoms are among the most organized and engaged communities on the internet. BLACKPINK's subscriber growth is fueled by a dedicated global fanbase that actively promotes the group's content across platforms.
Key lesson: Building a community that actively promotes your content is one of the most powerful growth levers.
A striking pattern in the top rankings is the dominance of non-English channels. Hindi, Korean, Spanish, Portuguese, and Urdu content appears frequently in the top 50. This reflects YouTube's massive global user base — India alone has over 450 million YouTube users.
For creators, this has an important implication: you don't need to target English-speaking audiences to build a massive channel. Serving a large, underserved language market can be just as effective — sometimes more so — than competing in the saturated English-language space.
Many top channels maintain presence across both formats. Some channels, like MrBeast, have used Shorts as a funnel to drive viewers to long-form content. Others primarily create short-form content for younger audiences.
The subscriber ranking doesn't distinguish between Shorts subscribers and long-form subscribers — a subscriber is a subscriber regardless of how they discovered you. But channels that rely primarily on Shorts tend to have different engagement patterns than those built on long-form content.
The largest channels typically upload frequently — T-Series and SET India sometimes publish multiple videos per day. Individual creators like MrBeast upload less frequently but invest heavily in each video.
Both approaches work, but they serve different strategies:
For most creators, the sustainable approach is somewhere in between — consistent enough to stay visible, but never at the expense of quality.
The channels at the top share several traits that smaller creators can apply:
You don't need 500 million subscribers to build a successful channel. A focused niche, consistent quality, and genuine audience connection can create a sustainable creator career at any scale. As of mid-2026, T-Series has approximately 314 million subscribers, making it the second most-subscribed channel on YouTube. The exact number changes daily.
As of mid-2026, MrBeast has over 500 million subscribers. He gained approximately 118 million subscribers in 2025 alone, the most by any channel in a single year.
T-Series, an Indian music label, held the top spot before MrBeast overtook them in June 2024. Before T-Series, PewDiePie (Felix Kjellberg) was the most-subscribed individual creator for many years.
As of mid-2026, approximately 17 channels have surpassed 100 million subscribers. The exact count changes as channels cross the threshold at different times.
Reaching 100+ million subscribers requires a combination of exceptional content, massive audience reach, and usually years of consistent growth. However, you don't need those numbers to build a successful, profitable YouTube channel. Many creators earn full-time incomes with 10,000-100,000 subscribers by focusing on high-value niches with strong engagement.
Entertainment, music, and children's content dominate the subscriber rankings. However, "most subscribers" and "most profitable" aren't the same thing. Niche channels in finance, technology, and business often earn more revenue per subscriber than mass-appeal entertainment channels.
YouTube counts each unique account that clicks the "Subscribe" button on a channel. Subscriber counts are updated in real-time on the channel page but displayed in rounded numbers for very large channels (e.g., "514M" instead of the exact count). YouTube may periodically remove inactive or fake accounts, which can cause temporary dips in subscriber counts.
